ABSENCES
If your child is going to be absent, please call the school to let them know. Any missed work for the day is the responsibility of the child to make up. Please send in a written excuse with your child on the day he/she returns to school.AGENDAS
Each student will be given an agenda the first week of school. We will use it daily to record homework and write down reminders. We will spend the last ten minutes of each day recording important information together. Please review your child's agenda with him/her and have your child check off each assignment as it is completed. I do my best to check student planners at the end of each day, and ask you do the same at home. I strongly believe that students will become more responsible about writing down and completing their assignments if they have their agendas & take-home folders checked at home. Please feel free to jot down any questions, comments, or concerns about the homework in the agenda, and remind your child to bring it to my attention. If you notice that your child is forgetting materials at school, or regularly not writing their assignments down, please let me know and we will set up a system to check their agenda & folder each day.BIRTHDAYSIf you would like to send a treat in to help your child celebrate their birthday during the school day, please give me advance notice so we can schedule time to do so. Due to a growing number of students with severe food allergies, any treats brought to school need to be store bought and they must have a clear ingredient list so the nurse can determine if students with allergies can enjoy them. We are not a peanut & tree-nut free classroom, but try to avoid eating foods containing such products because students switch classes, and other students who come into our room do have severe allergies. Thank you for your understanding with this important issue. Lastly, if the treat needs any paper products or to be cut, I would greatly appreciate it if you could send in the necessary materials. We have 22 students in our class this year.CONFERENCES/CONCERNSPlease feel free to contact me at any time about your child. I will do whatever I can to help your child have a successful year. I look forward to meeting and working together this year. Thank you in advance for your support!SNACK & WATER BOTTLESFifth graders do not eat lunch until 1:20, therefore, I strongly encourage you to send in a HEALTHY snack everyday. Please do not send in junk food, candy or soda pop. Eating healthy food helps to keep student brains stimulated! Students may also keep a water bottle on their desks during the day. The bottle should only contain water.
