• AIS stands for Academic Intervention Services.

AIS Writing is only one of the AIS programs offered at NTHS.

A student receives these services if they failed to pass their English (ELA) exam.  For the ELA 8 exam, it is a score of a 2 (out of 4) or below.  For the ELA 11 exam, it is a 3 (out of 6) or below.  A student can also be placed in AIS based on a teacher, counselor, or parent's request.  Usually, these students are at risk of failing English or struggle with basic writing and grammar skills.

AIS Writing does not supplement a Resource Room, and it is not really a homework help class.  Students can receive assistance with their English homework if all other AIS Writing work is complete.

AIS Writing is in addition to the student's English class.

AIS Writing is geared toward specific writing skills and Regents exam preparation.
