    This is a 40 week course that fulfills the New York State requirement that each student successfully completes one credit in the arts to graduate from high school. It will also complete the prerequisite for students interested in taking other advanced courses in the future.

    Over the 40 weeks you will be learning about the Elements of art and Principles of design and how artists use them to express their "Big Ideas". You will learn how to use different mediums to express your own ideas in a variety of art works. As part of the curriculum you will also reflect on your own art work and the art work of others by discussing and writing about it.

    Anyone willing to put forth good effort can get a good grade in art. Criteria for each project will be posted and students will know exactly what it takes to get an "A" for each assignment. Grades will be given on preliminary work, written reflections, final projects, notebooks, and quizzes. A final exam is given and equal to 1/5 of the final grade.

    Supplies needed for the class: Please bring in a 3-ring binder with pockets and about 20 sheets of lined notebook paper, black sharpie, pink pearl eraser and pencils. These are to be left in class.

    RULES: In order to make our class experiences the best for everyone in the room, we have rules in place. The consequences for breaking the rules are: 1. my detention after school 2. Failure to show up will receive a written referral to the principal. If the unacceptable behavior continues, this will result in a phone call home and administrative action. 

    The rules are easy:

    1. Listen attentively while others are talking.

    2. Follow directions the first time they are given. 

    3. Show respect to people, for supplies and the environment at ALL times 

    4. Come to class prepared. 

    5. Work productively, quietly and responsibly during the ENTIRE class period.
